Automotive manufacturer Volkswagen has officially revealed the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport in Los Angeles, introducing a thoroughly redesigned, more powerful, and premium coupe-style SUV to the U.S. market.
Design Upgrades and Exterior Features
Following the recent overhaul of the standard three-row Atlas, the updated Cross Sport maintains its signature sportier roofline while adopting modern styling cues. Measuring 195.6 inches long, the vehicle retains dimensions identical to the first-generation model while sitting 2.1 inches lower than its larger sibling. Exterior updates include new color options such as Dark Sage Metallic, Blackberry, and Sandstone, alongside standard 18-inch wheels and available 20-inch or 21-inch wheels on higher trims.
Performance and Powertrain Enhancements
Under the hood, the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport relies exclusively on the EA888 turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine. This powertrain delivers 282 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, representing a 13 hp increase over the outgoing model. Power is managed by an 8-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive coming standard and all-wheel drive available as an option. Built on the upgraded MQB Evo platform, the SUV maintains a maximum towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds when equipped with a trailer hitch.
Advanced Technology and Interior Refinements
Inside, the cabin features improved material quality, enhanced soft-touch surfaces, and advanced technology. Every model comes equipped with a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and either a 12.9-inch or a dominant 15-inch infotainment unit. Safety and driver-assistance features include Travel Assist hands-on adaptive cruise control functioning from 0 to 95 mph, Emergency Assist Plus, and seven airbags, including a new front center airbag. Volkswagen plans to launch the new Atlas Cross Sport for the early 2027 on-sale date, with a hybrid variant slated for a later mid-cycle refresh.
