While General Motors has long advertised its electric SUV as America’s most affordable option with over 315 miles of range, new pricing structures and trims are putting that title to the test.
Pricing and Range Showdown
The standard 2027 Chevy Equinox EV LT1 FWD begins at $34,995 and delivers an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 319 miles. However, factoring in the $1,800 destination fee brings the total purchase price to $36,795. Meanwhile, the 2027 Kia EV3 starts lower at $29,890 for its base Light FWD model, which offers a 221-mile range. For long-distance drivers, the Kia EV3 Wind FWD provides an EPA-estimated range of up to 321 miles starting at $34,990. With a $1,495 destination fee, the total price for the EV3 Wind FWD lands at $36,485—making it slightly cheaper than the Equinox while delivering two additional miles of range.
Design, Technology, and Updates
For the 2027 model year, the Chevrolet Equinox EV serves as a carryover vehicle with one major hardware update: a native NACS port replacing the previous CCS port, allowing seamless access to Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. It retains its signature 17.7-inch central touchscreen. On the other hand, the Kia EV3 features the advanced ccNC infotainment system equipped with dual 12.3-inch driver displays, a central touchscreen, and a dedicated 5-inch climate control display.
Interior Space and Dimensions
In terms of physical size, the Kia EV3 is noticeably more compact, measuring 169.3 inches in length compared to the Chevrolet Equinox EV‘s 190.6 inches. Consequently, the Equinox provides slightly more interior cargo capacity with up to 57.2 cubic feet of maximum space, whereas the EV3 offers up to 56.5 cubic feet.
