Revolutionary Inflight Connectivity Reaches New Heights
In late 2024, Qatar Airways made aviation history by equipping its first aircraft with Starlink connectivity, quickly establishing itself as a pioneer in modern passenger experience. The oneworld carrier has now announced a monumental milestone, revealing that over 150 wide-body jets currently feature the advanced high-speed internet service. This ambitious rollout is projected to encompass 180 aircraft by the end of the year, cementing the airline’s reputation for digital innovation.
Passengers traveling with the multi-award-winning carrier can now experience speeds of up to 500 megabits per second, perfectly suited for heavy bandwidth tasks like gaming, VPN access, and sports streaming. This is a game changer for the passenger experience, industry experts note, especially given that Qatar Airways provides this cutting-edge service on a complimentary basis with simple one-click access. Furthermore, the airline permits voice and video calls, sparking lively debates regarding inflight etiquette.
Fleet-Wide Integration and Technical Triumphs
The ambitious digital transformation has already reached completion across several major aircraft families in the Qatar Airways fleet. Installation projects are now officially finished for all Boeing 777s (spanning over 60 jets), all Airbus A350s (another 60+ aircraft), and all Boeing 787-8s (consisting of 32 planes). The carrier is currently focusing its engineering efforts on the Boeing 787-9 variant, with all 27 units expected to be fully equipped before the end of 2026.
Managing installations on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner family is notoriously complex due to the aircraft’s composite fuselage, making Qatar Airways the very first airline globally to successfully deploy Starlink on both 787-8 and 787-9 models. Impressively, technical teams require merely 10 hours per aircraft to complete the retrofitting process. Cumulatively, the airline has operated more than 86,000 flights featuring Starlink, successfully connecting over 23 million passengers.
Global Excellence and Award-Winning Legacy
This technological leap builds upon a remarkable foundation of operational excellence recognized globally. At the 2025 World Airline Awards managed by Skytrax, Qatar Airways claimed the prestigious World’s Best Airline title for an unprecedented ninth time. The airline also secured top honors for World’s Best Business Class and World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge, reinforcing its undisputed leadership in commercial aviation.
Operating out of its primary hub at Hamad International Airport—voted the Best Airport in the Middle East for 11 consecutive years—the carrier connects travelers to over 160 destinations worldwide during the summer season. Our unwavering commitment to providing seamless and proven operations remains at the heart of our award-winning passenger experience, management emphasizes, supported by recent Platinum performance recognition from Cirium.
